District 11’s Sen. Tim Mathern to seek another Senate term

Sen. Tim Mathern, D-Fargo, says he is running for another term in the Legislature.

Mathern issued a statement Thursday announcing his intent to run in next year’s election.

Mathern represents District 11 in Fargo. He was first elected to the North Dakota Senate in 1986. Of the 14 Democratic-NPL Party members of the Senate, he has the longest tenure in the chamber.

Mathern also has in past sessions served as minority leader and assistant majority leader.

In his statement, Mathern lists his priorities if re-elected as flood protection, health care and reforms in the state’s corrections system.

No Republican candidate ran against Mathern in 2010. He received more than 95 percent of the vote that year with the remaining votes going to write-in candidates.

He named Rachael Guy as his campaign manager for next year’s election, which is Nov. 4, 2014.

Lawmakers in all odd-numbered districts are up for election next year as well as several elected statewide offices.
