Kevin Cramer Got Nothing for Shutting Down the Government; Continues to Deliver Nothing to North Dakotans

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(BISMARCK, ND) – Bob Valeu, Chairman of the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party, released the following statement:

“Sixteen days after throwing his lot in with the ‘kamikaze caucus’ of Radical Tea Party Republicans, Congressman Kevin Cramer has nothing to show for his temper tantrum that shut down the federal government other than the adverse impact it had on the lives of countless North Dakotans.

“Congressman Cramer already did enough harm to our state before the shutdown by letting the federal Farm Bill expire. The October 4th blizzard in southwestern North Dakota added insult to injury for farmers and ranchers in southwestern North Dakota. Thanks to Cramer’s shutdown, they could not report their cattle losses because the USDA was closed. Also, thanks to Cramer’s countdown, no new small business loans, home guarantee loans, or veterans’ claims were processed.

“For all his talk of fiscal responsibility, Cramer’s shutdown cost taxpayers $150 million per day each day the government was closed. And for all his talk of personal responsibility, Cramer continued to collect his government paycheck during the shutdown while Senators Heitkamp and Hoeven honorably donated theirs to charity. North Dakotans must not also forget that Cramer was one of 51 Radical Republicans who signed a letter to Speaker John Boehner urging him to use Social Security as a bargaining chip in negotiations to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling. Now that Cramer’s temper tantrum is over, North Dakotans need to ask themselves this question: Is Kevin Cramer the best we can do as our state’s only congressman?

“Cramer’s failed record, and his reckless actions during the last 16 days, leaves little doubt that we can do better. The North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party will see to that next November.”
